Rock a Bye Baby - Lesson 31 of Nursery Rhyme and Silly Songs

 Rock a bye baby on the tree top,
When the wind blows the cradle will rock,
When the bough breaks the cradle will fall,
And down will come baby, cradle and all.

2 Thessalonians 3:3

New Living Translation (NLT)
 But the Lord is faithful; he will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one.

Exodus 2

Moses In The Nile

We all want to feel protected, and it is odd that the most widely sung song to calm us speaks of dropping from a tree.  The good thing is that our God is a mighty protector!  We can certainly trust in Him!  If we look to a tiny baby Moses traveling in the Nile river with the 'protection' of only a basket we may be able to grasp His power in protection.  For moses to be place infested with hippos, snakes, bacteria, and alligators just to be found by likely the ONE person in Egypt that could save his life is really showing the protective power of God!

Pastor Derek shows what is is like when we get close to bad things in this world without God, and as well when we have God.

Queen of Hearts - Lesson 30 of Nursery Rhyme and Silly Songs

The Queen of Hearts she made some tarts all on a summer's day;
The Knave of Hearts he stole the tarts and took them clean away.
The King of Hearts called for the tarts and beat the Knave full sore
The Knave of Hearts brought back the tarts and
vowed he'd steal no more.

Ephesians 4:28

English Standard Version (ESV)
 Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need.

Joshua 7

Achan's Theft

No matter the account of theft, even one in 'nursery rhyme' form, there are serious consequences for committing the act.  The Knave is beat and decides to never steal again, Achan did not get the luxury of being able to change his mind of the act.  It is true he likely decided to never steal again, but due to the nature of his theft, he and his family were killed.  Would you rather take the chance now to decide that stealing is not a good idea, or end up in a place where your consequences are so great that you have no life to live that choice?

Little Boy Blue - Lesson 29 of Nursery Rhyme and Silly Songs

Little Boy Blue come blow your horn,
The sheep's in the meadow the cow's in the corn.
But where's the boy who looks after the sheep?
He's under a haystack fast asleep.
Will you wake him? No, not I - for if I do, he's sure to cry

1 Thessalonians 5:17

New International Version (NIV)
pray continually,

Luke 22

The Disciples Falling Asleep While Praying

Just like Little Boy Blue, the disciples fell asleep at an important time.  The good thing is that Jesus did not fear their 'tears' when waking them.  Prayer is an amazing tool, and we really see this in the life of Christ.  He prayed SO much, and when in His most desperate time of need he asked other to actively pray with Him.  His example is great - we really should not be forsaking the ability to speak with our Father in heaven!

Mary Had A Little Lamb - Lesson 28 of Nursery Rhyme and Silly Songs

Mary had a little lamb its fleece was white as snow;
And everywhere that Mary went, the lamb was sure to go.
It followed her to school one day, which was against the rule;
It made the children laugh and play, to see a lamb at school.
And so the teacher turned it out, but still it lingered near,
And waited patiently about till Mary did appear.
"Why does the lamb love Mary so?" the eager children cry;
"Why, Mary loves the lamb, you know" the teacher did reply.

Deuteronomy 31:6

New International Version (NIV)
Be strong and courageous.Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”

 Exodus 13 & 14
Israelites being led by God

Mary's little lamb has an almost crazy connection to Christ always being with us.  The lamb is always with her, but goes to school - against the rules - and politely waits for her to return to be with her again.  When exiting Egypt the Israelites had some of the most amazing experiences with God.  To be able to follow Him as a cloud, or by fire would be amazing.  They did not move unless God moved - and even when it seemed that God was not with them, He was their rear guard protecting them from their enemies.  God is like this for us as well, and that is something to be grateful for!
