Jack & Jill - Lesson 23 of Nursery Rhyme and Silly Songs

Jack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a pail of water
Jack fell down and broke his crown
And Jill came tumbling after.
Up got Jack, and home did trot
As fast as he could caper
He went to bed and bound his head
With vinegar and brown paper.

James 1:14-15

New International Version (NIV)
but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. 15 Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.

Genesis 3

Adam and Eve ... The Fall

It should be easily seen how Jack and Jill can be seen to parallel Adam and Eve's story.  Of course - Eve at of the fruit, but both 'fell' just the same in both!  It is not hard to have a temptation - and as well it is not really hard to do something wrong because of our temptations.  What we must begin to understand is that there are consequences to what we do.  Adam and Eve could no longer stay in paradise because they broke the ONLY rule they had. Over time more and more rules have been thrown on us to battle the grip of sin in our lives - We can do our best to follow them, but know that we have Christ that brings us together to help us all .. and because of that we can help each other!

Wise Old Owl - Lesson 22 of Nursery Rhyme and Silly Songs

A wise old owl lived in an oak
The more he saw the less he spoke
The less he spoke the more he heard.
Why can't we all be like that wise old bird?

Proverbs 1:7

New Living Translation (NLT)
Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge,
but fools despise wisdom and discipline.

1 Kings 3

Solomon Chooses Wisdom

We can learn very much about wisdom just from the nursery rhyme - if we use our eyes and ears to see and hear, we will not speak as much because we will be learning more.  When we do speak it will be wisdom coming out - even if it is a question.  Solomon started out his reign as king with wisdom because he started by asking God a question.  Because he did this and then asked for wisdom - he became very wise - actually he is known as the wisest man that ever lived.

We can be wise to.  When we are wise, just like with Solomon - riches, power, and good times are headed our way!

Pussycat, Pussycat - Lesson 21 of Nursery Rhyme and Silly Songs

"Pussycat pussycat, where have you been?"
"I've been up to London to visit the Queen."
"Pussycat pussycat, what did you dare?"
"I frightened a little mouse under her chair"
"MEOWW!"

Acts 5:29

New King James Version (NKJV)
But Peter and the other apostles answered and said: “We ought to obey God rather than men.

The Book of Esther

Esther interrupts the King

Most all of us know and understand there are certain rules that we must follow.  If we do - no problems come up - and everyone is, pretty much, happy because of it.  Just like the person having the conversation with the cat in the nursery rhyme, we are amazed to hear how Esther broke a rule that could have gotten her killed.

Remember that we should still follow rules and do as those in higher authority ask us to, but sometimes it may come up - that what GOD says is more important than what the RULES say.  It is certainly hard to know when we have to do something like Esther did, but when God tells us - we will know!

Doe Doe and The Bearing Through The Tube!!

Sometimes we need to do something that may seem wrong and impossible.. much like what Esther did when she went to the King without an appointment. Doe Doe shows us one of the amazing things that can happen when God asks it to happen!

Ecclesiastes 4:12

New King James Version (NKJV)
Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him.
And a threefold cord is not quickly broken.

Exodus 3 and Romans 12 (specifically verse 5)
Moses & Aaron to being the Body of Christ

In the case of Moses, he was fearful that he could not do what God wanted him to so God let Aaron, the brother of Moses, do some things for him.  They worked as a team - and God set it up.  In the ants go marching we see that each time one is 'doing work' it is the littlest among the rest.  If we remember that we are the body of Christ and understand that there are no unimportant parts we can do what God has called us to with joy!

Baa Baa Black Sheep - Lesson 19 of Nursery Rhyme and Silly Songs (Billy Button's Birthday)

Baa baa black sheep, have you any wool?
Yes sir, yes sir, three bags full!
One for the master, one for the dame,
And one for the little boy who lives down the lane.
Baa baa black sheep, have you any wool?
Yes sir, yes sir, three bags full!

2 Corinthians 9:7

New King James Version (NKJV)
7 So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.

Acts 3

The lame man at the gate called beautiful

In giving to God we can be like the black sheep and have a happy attitude.. ready to give freely.  When Peter and John came to the lame man laid near the gate called beautiful Peter spoke to him, letting him know that he (Peter) had no riches to give.  He did say that he still had something to give...

He said he would give what he could.  He reached out and helped the man up - and in that act the man was healed; able to walk and jump and dance.  Our offering.. or gift to God does not HAVE to be money, as much as the church need s money it also needs your time, your love, and your presence.  We can give everyone around us these things and whenever we do - it is much like giving it to God!

Hey Diddle Diddle - Lesson 18 of Nursery Rhyme and Silly Songs

Uploaded with Snapbucket

Hey diddle diddle, the cat and the fiddle,
The cow jumped over the moon.
The little dog laughed to see such fun
And the dish ran away with the spoon!

Matthew 19:26

New International Version (NIV)
Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

1 Kings 18:20-40

Elijah and the Prophets of Baal

There are many impossible things in Hey Diddle Diddle, but we know that our God can do the impossible!  When Elijah went against the prophets of Baal in a 'contest' to have their God take the offering they each offered.. The impossible happened.  Even though there was a drought Elijah 'gave' water onto the alter where fire needed to appear.  The fire not only took the offering but also left the ground dry.  The prophets of Baal even being numbered to 500 could not call this power down!  Our God is the only God.. the God that CAN do the Impossible!

Row Row Row Your Boat - Lesson 17 of Nursery Rhyme and Silly Songs

ROW ROW ROW YOUR BOAT,
GENTLY DOWN THE STREAM,
MERRILY MERRILY MERRILY MERRILY
LIFE IS BUT A DREAM.

Colossians 3:23-24

New King James Version (NKJV)
23 And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for[a] you serve the Lord Christ.

Acts 16:16-40

Paul and Silas In Prison

Just as in the silly song for this lesson the rowers are 'merrily' doing their work - so did Paul and Silas.  Being sent to prison for casting out a spirit possessing a slave girl, instead of being beaten and giving up, Paul and Silas are praying and singing about God's glory.  God releases them from their bonds, but likely due to their joyous attitudes they stay there and are able to talk and commune with the Jailer's family.. ending with that entire family getting saved and baptized!  God really pulls off miracles and usually never how we would expect it to happen! Be joyous in all that you do!
