Luke 10:25-37 The Good Samaritan

Sharing your Faith is as simple as LOVING OTHERS.  Jesus had no problem showing love to anyone He came into contact with.  When He was asked 'Who is my neighbor' Jesus told a story to show how ANYONE can be a neighbor if we extend love towards them.  By not doing this we limit the sharing of our FAITH - so show love towards another TODAY!

These lessons each take one character from the Avengers movie and have a lesson about Jesus in them.  These are all modified from a blog I wrote on the movie shortly after seeing it.  Some of the lessons were modified to fit better with the actual lesson that is taught. You can check out that blog HERE.

In the Avengers movie Phil Coulson is the catalyst that brought "earths mightiest heroes" together. You might have expected it to instead be one of the more powerful players, but instead it was just a man.  The Israelites expected the Christ to be so much more 'amazing' then what they initially saw in Jesus.  He should have been a powerful warrior that became their king, instead he was a carpenter that talked a bunch, and then died.  One real power that Jesus had was His ability to bring the diverse together.  His disciples were not all fisherman, nor were they all tax collectors, or either just good men.  They came from all walks of life, and somehow Jesus brought them all together for ONE cause.  Where His death may have scattered them, His resurrection empowered them and guided them to the Holy Spirit which immediately spoke to all... regardless of language barriers.

http://bible.us/Jas1.20.NLT Human anger does not produce the righteousness God desires. So get rid of all the filth and evil in your lives, and humbly accept the word God has planted in your hearts, for it has the power to save your souls. 

The Incredible Hulk is arguably one of the strongest superheros out there, but his problem is with his control of it.  Having the right reign on our emotions is a good thing, Christ showed an interesting example of this when He overturned the moneychangers tables in the temple.  So often Jesus showed love and compassion to all He came into contact, it is almost jeering to then read about Him throwing what we may consider to be a temper tantrum, but if we really look at His purpose we understand that Christ had control.  He was forcefully removing the things that did not belong in the temple to create room for the things that did, those blind and lame - in need of healing.  We can do the same, instead of bottling the anger and letting it cause us to explode, we can find how to route it and let God mold it into something that blesses another instead!

Bible Lesson : 

Matthew 4

It was simple to see that Iron Man had some kind of 'heart' protection that did not allow Loki to take over his mind.  Jesus showed us all how that really works when he went into the desert to be tested by Satan.  In each temptation of Satan, Jesus did not exert power or strength - only defense. He turned away everything with just a few of God's words.  We can do the same and the more we know about God and His word the better we can do it!  Study and create a protected heart that cannot be controlled by the evil one.

Black Widow seemed to have an amazing ability to look as if she was losing and completely turn it around, I guess a good spy really knows how to get information.  Our God has this ability as well in the moment of the crucifixion it seems that the greatest blow of defeat is coming, yet without that blow... we all would have lost. And as well the same occurs in the moment of each of our salvations.  In act of 'losing' our life, we gain LIFE more abundantly through Christ Jesus!  It is amazing the way that God works in our lives!

Bible Lesson : 

Matt 3, Matt 17:1-9, John 11:1-45, Matt 27 (near end), Mark 16, Luke 24:50

Thor left his heaven like home in order to come to earth to protect it, much like Christ.. though Christ's 'fight' was much different.  Each of the Bible stories above talk about a bit of how Christ is a 'heavenly' being.  The Baptism shows all three parts of the trinity in one place and describes the devotion and pride God the Father has for His son and the job He will be undertaking.  The transfiguration is one of the times that Christ really did look heavenly, and even spoke to 'heavenly' beings.  When Jesus spoke to Lazarus He showed the power of His voice that could break the barrier of earth and heaven, something that only a being greater than us could really do.  The Crucifixion shows His power as He died and the curtain that divided the most holy place in the temple from common man was torn from top to bottom.  Christ's Resurrection shows a divine power as He returned to earth to give the final lessons and then literally ascending into heaven as He blessed his followers.

There are many times the Bible gives us to show how Christ did as His Father in Heaven wanted Him to.  Each of these times should help strengthen our dedication to Him and the cause that His death started.  Loki demanded the kneeling of everyone to him, and there may be things that will demand more of you than you should give.  Those things can become idols very quickly.  Learning how to keep God #1 at all times is a very important thing to do.  In no way can we split ourselves between more than one 'master'.  Christ gave us the greatest example of this lifestyle and we all should look at these stories to remember and be ready to do as God wills in our lives just as Christ did in His!

Bible Lesson : 

Exodus

Captain America experienced a time like the Israelites.  For seventy years he was trapped in ice.. staying the same.  Those that first came to the promised land had this happen to them too.  They decided they could not take what God had for them and then were forced to walk in the desert for 40 years.  Those that were the same and did not think they could take it died and those that were more acceptable to the change were the ones who entered the promised land.  The same thing happened with Christ for the Jewish community.  Expecting a warrior king to come and save them; they were not ready for a humble servant that had an ultimate purpose in death.  God said that Jesus was a stumbling block to them.  Because of this, we - or rather ALL are now accepted into the kingdom, or family of God.  You do not need to be of the nation.  God does not change. If He is our focus we can make it though anything.. no matter the change.

Bible Lesson : 

Luke 19 - Zaccheaus and Jesus 

Hawkeye has great sight.  His aim is always on target.  In the movie he was able to figure out something that no 'top level' scientist was able to figure out.  He is not one of the big a characters, but really pulled off some amazing things.  Zacchaeus was much like him.  He climbed to a higher point in order to gain a better sight of his target.  He wanted to see Jesus and set his aim on Christ.  Because of this he gained even more than all those others in the crowd.  He was able to have Jesus in his home.  If we can set our sights on Christ, we can learn so much more about him and that is what these next few weeks will be about.
